Putting God First

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.  Psalm 32:8 NLT

Isn’t this a perfect verse for every Daily Doctor Mom?   More than anything, we need the Lord’s help!  But if we want guidance, we need to spend time with Him.

How do you begin your day?  Are you out of the bed before the sun rises?  Maybe you don’t have a set schedule at all.

I know that’s often the case with Doctor Moms.  We’re on-call 24/7/365.  Flexibility is our middle name and we’ll each find our own groove.

But whatever “routine” you settle on, make sure Jesus is at the top. We’re making a big mistake if we launch right into our role of Doctor Mom, without consulting the Great Physician first.

Now don’t panic!  I’m not saying you have to devote an hour, or even 30 minutes for quiet time first thing in the morning.   It’s just not going to be reality for many Doctor Moms.  Why?  Because we both know that while the world is sleeping, we aren’t!  All too often, we’re simply dozing between those night-time checks.

Here’s what I am saying:  never forget to find a few moments to be with God before you launch into your role of Doctor Mom.  If you have to get up a few minutes earlier–do it.  If you have to have breakfast a few minutes later–do it.  You must be willing to do whatever it takes to be with your heavenly Father before your day begins.

The Bible teaches us that when we see God first, He’ll meet all our needs.  That’s a promise we can’t afford to miss out on!

Question:  When do you have your quiet time with God?

  1. So very true 🙂 Looking forward to reading more!

  2. There is nothing more God wants than for us to come to Him! It’s refreshing to wake up and give the day to Him. He sets you on the right path even before you get going for the day.

    Great post!

  3. Wow! Love this blog idea! Thanks for this great reminder 🙂
